Datel will present two space services developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), Sille.Space and Catanova.es, at Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona on 3–5 November 2026.
Datel is one of the partners presenting at ESA’s joint booth.
Space data for cities
ESA is hosting a joint booth with the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC) and Destination Earth (DestinE). The booth shows how Earth observation and satellite data help cities track urban heat, climate risks and green infrastructure.
Smart City Expo World Congress is organised by Fira de Barcelona and has been held in Barcelona since 2011. This year it takes place at the Fira Barcelona Gran Vía venue, with topics including digital transformation, sustainable mobility, artificial intelligence, resilient infrastructure and urban planning.
Two services developed with ESA
Sille.Space is an early warning service for infrastructure movement. It uses satellite radar (InSAR) to detect millimetre-scale movement of buildings, bridges and other infrastructure, with data available from 2016 onwards. Infrastructure owners and city teams can use it to spot changes before they become visible.
Catanova compares satellite imagery, orthophotos and official urban data with municipal registers to identify unregistered or incorrectly registered buildings.
Both services are relevant to those working on planning, building permits, building control, infrastructure and municipal data.
Datel has collaborated with ESA since 2016. Other ESA projects the company has worked on include Solar Orbiter and the Earth Observation Baltic Platform.
